Handcrafted from recycled Heart Rimu, this basket weave pattern is one of our specialty end grain cutting boards.
When working with reclaimed timber, we make use of the different sizes and pieces available to us, allowing the timber itself to help determine the finished pattern. We deliberately avoid making every board the same — some develop a more uniform pattern, while others have a wonderfully random character.
Board 014 is particularly special as the Heart Rimu has been gathered from a number of different places around the West Coast of New Zealand, bringing together timber with its own individual history into one unique piece.
After gluing, our boards are allowed time to rest and settle before being carefully machined, finely sanded and polished. The resulting basket weave pattern is unique to this board and will never be repeated exactly.
Two recessed hand slots on each side make this substantial board easy to lift from the benchtop.
Each board is finished and conditioned with our own Wax N Wood Wood Butter, handcrafted from beeswax and food-grade mineral oil. This helps nourish and protect the timber while bringing out the natural colour and character of the grain.
