Handcrafted from recycled New Zealand Kauri, this end grain cutting board features our distinctive basket weave pattern — a specialty of Wax N Wood.
The timber used to create this particular board has a wonderful history, having previously served as weatherboards on an old church. Quality recycled Kauri is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain, making it particularly rewarding to preserve this timber and give it a new purpose.
The individual pieces of Kauri have been carefully selected and arranged to create a basket weave pattern unique to this board. The natural variations in colour and grain are very much part of its character and its past.
We don’t rush the construction of our end grain boards. Once assembled and glued, the board is given time to thoroughly dry and settle before final machining, fine sanding and polishing. This process helps us produce a substantial board intended to be both used and treasured for many years.
Each board is finished and conditioned with our own Wax N Wood Wood Butter, handcrafted from beeswax and food-grade mineral oil. This helps nourish and protect the timber while bringing out the natural colour and character of the grain.
With regular care and occasional reconditioning, these handcrafted timber boards are designed to continue their story for many years to come.
